Fantasy Baseball 365

Written by Charlie Saponara | 07 June 2010

While the MLB Amateur Draft begins tonight, some of baseball's current top prospects are heading for the big leagues and being added by fantasy owners left and right. Counting on prospects with little or no Major League experience can be a slippery slope. Some of these prospects have been added in over 20 percent of ESPN leagues along with some breakthrough veterans. Who is a buy and who is a sell?

My Internet was down this weekend. Between that, playing some baseball and taking care of other things, I didn't get a chance to post any articles or respond to emails, tweets and comments. Hopefully things are back to normal now. I feel like I just missed a month.

At least I went 3 for 4 in my ballgame. My BABIP had been a bit low, so a breakout game was bound to happen.

In this week's One Man's Trash, we look at an injured Angel, a pitcher with a perfecto on the season and a hitter with 10 home runs on the season. Who to buy and who to sell...

Dave, of Goose Joak and fellow member of the FB365 League, posted some interesting numbers on the league's message board. The most interesting to me was the comparison of two high-strikeout, low-control pitchers.

Player A - 10.4 K/9, 5.4 BB/9, 39% GB rate, 4.12 xFIP
Player B - 10.1 K/9, 5.2 BB/9, 40% GB rate, 4.22 xFIP

The Roto Recap is back! Well, sort of. This may not be an everyday affair, but I'll try to get it in as much as possible. I won't be recapping every game, instead opting to hit on specific notes of interest from yesterday's games.

Every season, James Loney is a sought after name on draft day. In the past he has been taken much higher, but after two very similar (and very mediocre) seasons, fantasy owners are starting to smarten up. Still, every season Loney seems to get more love than a other first basemen who aren't far off when you compare the numbers. Last season Billy Butler was one of the names that was far less owned and had a huge second half. Will there be a similar case this season?

.239/.310/.440

That is the career line of Diamondbacks outfielder Chris Young.

.274/.338/.462

That is his line-to-date for 2010, making him the 77th highest ranked player according to Yahoo!

Young has shown us in the past that he is capable of hitting for power and combining that with 20-plus steal speed, but he has yet to put everything together with a solid AVG over a full season.

The problem...

I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day. We can never say enough good things about the men and women who have served and are currently serving this country and protecting our freedom.

Today marks the begging of the Roto Watch List, which will be a weekly feature intended to identify some less owned players that may have fantasy impact in the near future. Owned percentages for both Yahoo! and ESPN are in parenthesise.

Buster Posey is on his on his way to the bay. It seems like it has been a long time coming, but fantasy owners will finally be able to put Posey into their starting lineup. Expectations are extremely high for this gifted hitter. Will he live up to the hype?
