Mike Scioscia has officially pulled Fernando Rodney from the closer’s role in Anaheim and said that Jordon Walden will take over closer duties for the time being.
Walden, a former starter as a prospect, has seen his strikeout rates soar at the big league level as a reliever. Last season he struck out 23 in 15.1 innings with the Angels and he has five strikeouts in only two innings to start this season. His command/control could be an issue at some point, but the strikeout potential helps ease those worries a bit.
He is a must add in every format.
