With Evan Longoria and Ryan Zimmerman both on the DL now, the thin position of 3B is getting even thinner. Here are a few replacement players to look at if you need help at the hot corner.
Chase Headley – 27% owned – Perhaps the former top prospect will never be a superstar, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a productive fill-in for your fantasy team. Headley will continue to hit in the middle of the Padres lineup and should provide fantasy owners with decent RBI numbers, popping out a couple home runs per month and stealing a few bases along the way.
Jose Lopez – 14% owned – Lopez has two home runs on the young season and his pull-happy swing should play much better in Coors Field than it did last year in Safeco. Lopez did hit 25 home runs in 2009, so it would not be surprising to see him hit 15-20 once again. He’ll have to fight off some competition in Colorado, but as long as he keeps his AVG in decent shape and continues to pop a few balls out of the yard, he should get ample at-bats the rest of the season.
Wilson Betemit – 1% owned – Though Betemit started the season without an everyday gig, his hot start along with the struggles of Mike Aviles have earned him extended playing time. As long as he continues to hit, he should remain in the lineup. Betemit hit 13 home runs in only 276 at-bats last season and he has 20-plus home run potential if he can amass enough at-bats this season. Don’t expect his AVG to remain very high in the long-run, but his power and RBI potential is enough reason to add him to your roster.
