Yesterday I made my AL and NL Rookie of the Year prediction for both real and fantasy baseball. Today I’ll dive into the wonderful world of pitching and uncover my 2010 Cy Young Award winners.
AL Cy Young
Real: Jon Lester, SP, BOS- Zack Grenkie should once again put up great numbers in 2010, but his win total may not reflect it. Jon Lester, on the other hand, will get some run support and defensive help. Lester took a big step forward in 2009 and is young enough to actually improve on those numbers this season.
Fantasy: Brett Anderson, SP, OAK – After a tremendous second half to the 2009 season, many experts pegged Brett Anderson as a 2010 breakout candidate. With well above average strikeout rates, good command and a high ground ball rate, Anderson could provide top 15 value at a mid-round price.
NL Cy Young
Real: Ricky Nolasco, SP, FLA- Sure, I’ve heard of this Tim Lincecum guy, but Nolasco is going to be the definition of dominance this season.
Fantasy: Ricky Nolasco, SP, FLA- Because there is really only one choice and it’s Hot Nolasco Sauce.
